Understand the carer role — in three weeks, not eighteen months
The Entry into Care Roles intro course is a short, low-commitment program built on the nationally recognised CHCSS00114 Entry into Care Roles Skill Set. You spend one week in class learning the core of person-centred care, then step straight into two weeks of supervised on-the-job training in a real aged care, home & community, or disability support setting.

How the three weeks run
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Week 1 — In class | Mon–Thu, 9:00am–12:00pm: the carer role, person-centred support, infection prevention & control, safe work practices. Friday (full day): First Aid practical — CPR, DRSABCD, scenarios. |
| Break week | Trainers mark your assessments while we finalise your placement host, roster and pre-placement clearances. First Aid must be certified before Week 3. |
| Weeks 3–4 — On the job | Two weeks of supervised placement applying your skills in a real care environment, with workplace observation and a logbook. |
The units you'll earn — and how they credit into the Certificate III
Every unit counts toward the full CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, so nothing is repeated if you progress:
| Unit | Title | Credit into CHC33021 |
|---|---|---|
| CHCCCS015 | Provide individualised support | Credited toward CHCCCS031, its current equivalent (credit transfer or short top-up gap assessment) |
| HLTINF006 | Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control | Transfers 1:1 — identical unit |
| HLTWHS002 | Follow safe work practices for direct client care | Transfers 1:1 — identical unit |
| HLTAID011 | Provide First Aid (included, Friday practical) | Recognised across CHC & HLT qualifications |
This course is right for you if…
- You're seriously considering care work but want to experience it before committing to a full qualification.
- You want to be job-ready fast — the skill set is designed for entry-level work in aged care and disability support.
- You want every hour of study to count toward the full Certificate III.
- You can attend mornings in Sydney for one week, plus the Friday First Aid practical.
First Aid & placement requirements
Before placement you'll also complete pre-placement clearances: National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (or state equivalent). Placement runs on day shifts and can't fall on public holidays.
